Reconstruction of the body and face is a focus for the surgeons at Northwestern Memorial Hospital within the Feinberg School of Medicine. Examples of reconstructive surgery include the restoration of a breast mound after breast cancer surgery, hernia repairs that are needed after intestine surgery, broken hand surgery, removal of skin for the massive weight loss patient, chronic wound surgery, and the restoration of function of damaged nerves. The goal of reconstructive surgery is to restore the function and shape of what was there before.
This website is designed to provide information to patients. There is information about each of the surgeons within our group. Contained on these pages are explanations, photographs, and diagrams about some of the more common procedures that we perform including breast reconstruction and hernia repairs. Some of our newer work includes studies on healing problematic wounds. We also created the surgery called Targeted Reinnervation or the bionic arm procedure to help improve function for upper extremity amputees.
